The book is a free download as a PDF directly from the Dummies UK website. It is aimed at medium-sized businesses, musicians, bloggers and those who simply want to connect with others.

The first section covers Google's Local Business Centre (LBC) and how to get an LBC listing. This follows on to Google Maps and how you can embed the maps into your own website. With the Google Maps Application Program Interface (API) you can do some quite cleaver things such as creating info bubbles on your site and custom overlays that allow visitors to zoom to different points on the map you've created.

Making the most of YouTube
The book also makes quite a lot of YouTube and how you can make the most of it. You'll learn how to create an account and how to ensure other people will find your videos. You'll learn how to embed the video's in your own website and also how to network on YouTube to encourage other to view you pages.

The rest of the book is devoted to setting up an AdWords account and building your campaigns and ads. You'll learn how to build both a Starter Edition Account as well as the more complex Standard Edition Account. There is a walk-through to setting up each of them.

The book also covers in fairly simple language how the AdWords system works in relation to ad groups, keywords and the actual ads. You'll learn the importance of refining the keywords all the time and the benefits this will bring both to the efficiency and cost of your campaigns.

Writing effective ads
One of the most difficult things beginners find with AdWords is actually learning how to write effective ads. This is covered in some detail with information on choosing a good headline, first line description as well as the call to action.

You'll learn how to target you ads by language or to a specific location. The location can be from the all countries in the world, to just one town or mapped out area.

Content network or search network
There are two specific networks that your ads can appear on. These are the search network, meaning the Google search engines and other search partners; the other is the content network. The content network ads run over websites with lots of content and lots of visitors. Your ads will appear according to the text on the page against the keywords you specified.

They include an example of an ad for the keywords shade-grown coffee which may appear alongside an article in The Times about the cultivation of coffee beans.

AdWords conversion tracking and Google Analytics
It is all very well getting you ad campaign created and running but you will also need to consider how you will measure the success (or failure) of your efforts. Again Google are able to help you out with this with their AdWords conversion tracking and the more sophisticated Google Analytics.

Both are very simple to setup with just some simple code added to pages on the website. Once they are running you can see in detail which referrers sent the best visitors and which keywords are used that then end in enquiries or sales on your website.
